Shallow – Superficial
To be shallow and superficial is to have or display very little or no intellectual and/or emotional complexity or value, and to be extremely weak in character and attitude, with little to no Spiritual significance and substance.
The internet/computers and cell phones are convenient tools to use, and they definitely have their place in the world today. However, they have done a pretty thorough job at making that which is personal and intimate in nature, very shallow and superficial. Through distant impersonal communications such as online chatting and text messaging, the internet/computers has almost completely wiped out all of our personal contact with each other, and has also just about done away with face-to-face eye-to-eye contact and personal communication. The internet/computers has given us the ability to communicate with those who live long distances away from us, and that is a surely a good thing. Nevertheless, the internet/computers cause many to shy away from personal one on one physical contact, connecting with those we are communicating with an occasional touch, such as a pat on the shoulder, the touching of hands, and seeing and feeling the energy of the people we are communicating with. Such distant communication gives room for those who are uncomfortable with who they are to hide behind a wall of deception and pretend to be someone they are not. Such actions have caused many relationships to become distant, and others to completely disintegrate. It has even caused us to shortcut our communications in such a way that we abbreviate almost every word we use, even those words that are already short. You may say that is a good thing because it saves us time. Yes, it does save time, however; it is also causing big problems for many young people. As you may already know, many of the youth in America today are struggling in school because they are illiterate. When it comes down to them, these methods of communication only add to their problems. I see a lot of good uses for the new technology, yet at the same time I also see a lot of the problems technology is causing and creating on a daily basis.
We are becoming more dependent upon machines to do things for us that we should be doing for ourselves. We have machines to do the thinking for us, play games for us, and we even have machines stir up sensual emotions within us. The less we use our minds, the weaker they get. Our mind is like a muscle; it needs exercise to develop a strong memory and other intellectual functioning skills. In addition, the less we exercise and physically play, the weaker and sicker our bodies will get. The more we artificially stimulate ourselves sensually the more disconnected and distant we become towards each other. Things are becoming increasingly impersonal due to the advancements of technology. Atlantis and Lemuria are said to have been advanced civilizations that existed long before our civilization, and they were originally very Spiritual. However, they became far more advanced than we have today technologically. Because of that, they started to turn their backs on their true source of sustenance, their tried and trusted Spiritual abilities. Because of that, finally their technology got out of hand, and what they thought gave them new life and power, and was so wonderful ended up completely destroying them, and left little to no remnants of their existence. I am not saying that the story of Atlantis and Lemuria is true or false. However, I am saying that sounds like the path humanity is traveling down today.
We must get back to our original mode of existence. Because that way of living at least caused us to be in touch with SPIRIT’S ETERNAL INTELLIGANCE, and it also puts us in closer touch with our very own eternal Spirit within us. Since we are now starting to lack Spiritual connection and relationship to the degree that we are, we are now starting to experience a waning of our common sense, and without common sense we are surely doomed.
